American Gothic

Old-fashionedness and originality or sinister subtext and satire on the provincials?
A huge number of responses, discussions in the press of the States and even further memes was caused by a picture of Grant Wood "American Gothic" of 1930.

Grand Wood Was born near Anamosa (Iowa) in the family of a farmer. At that time, not yet a particularly well-known artist did not expect that the picture would cause such a resonance after he sent it to the competition of the Chicago Institute of Arts. The picture gained fame on an equal level with such works as "La Gioconda" by Da Vinci and "Creation of Adam" by Michelangelo!

In the years of the Great Depression, the film saw only ominous notes, harsh Americans, ready to rush into battle with those same forks depicted on it. Wood himself tried to portray people from his memories from his childhood in the countryside and family albums with pictures in a Victorian spirit.

Only in one all were unanimous - the author managed to catch something in truth American, not leaving indifferent people around the country! Namely steadfastness and readiness to withstand the difficulties of that time.
